New Delhi. Are you also spending a lot of money on diesel for irrigation in your fields? Perhaps you haven't yet heard about a central government scheme that can not only save you around ₹1 lakh every year but also help you earn. We're talking about the Pradhan Mantri Kusum Yojana. Just a day earlier, on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the benefits of the PM Kusum scheme.
Addressing the "India Renewable Energy Summit" at Bharat Mandapam, PM Modi said that more than 3 million farmers are benefiting from this scheme. Each farmer is able to save ₹1 lakh annually through solar pumps. He said, "Farmers across the country are benefiting from the PM-Kusum scheme. Through this initiative, more than 3 million farmers have been provided with solar-powered irrigation facilities. It is estimated that each farmer is able to save around ₹1 lakh annually by using solar pumps."
Do you know these benefits of installing a solar pump?
If you're still using a diesel pump for irrigation, it's time to replace it. Instead of spending a lot every month on a diesel or electric pump, you can install a solar-powered pump. If you want to install a solar pump just for yourself, it costs around ₹17.50 lakh. However, you'll only need to contribute 10% from your own pocket.
Furthermore, if you have land that's no longer suitable for farming, you can install a 500 kilowatt to 2 megawatt solar power plant there to generate electricity. You can also earn money by selling this electricity to the grid. A solar panel can easily last 25 years.
Can you install a solar pump?
Yes, any farmer can benefit from this scheme. You simply need to have your own farm or leased land. Farmers must apply to the state government or the relevant DISCOM. This scheme has three components. For complete details on how to apply, click on the " PM Kusum Yojana " link.
