An inordinate fondness for fast food... or rather, a habit claimed the life of 16-year-old Ahana in Amroha. Eating too much fast food caused her weight to rise to 70 kilograms, and her intestines also became infected. Twenty days after her operation in Moradabad, her condition worsened, and her family admitted her to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. While undergoing treatment, Ahana suffered a heart attack on Sunday and died moments later.

The increasing number of fast food and junk food shops in or around many schools and colleges in the city has endangered the health of children and youth. In the city, near MIT College in Ramganga Vihar, Chatori Gali, Gurhatti Road, Tadikhana, Budhbazar, Harthala, Diwan Bazaar, Gandhinagar and around Gokuldas College, countless places are running from permanent and temporary junk food shops.

Fast food items like chow mein, burgers, momos, French fries, samosas, pizza, and cold drinks are readily available at these shops. This is attracting thousands of school and college students. Ignoring standards, various fast food items like burgers, chow mein, and more are being sold in school canteens. As a result, children are regularly consuming fast food during lunch and recess.

Even educational institutions that are stricter in their rules often have fast food stalls and carts right outside. Consequently, this unprocessed food, which can cause illness, is gradually becoming a habit among the nation's children. Eating junk food is increasing the risk of obesity, digestive problems, weakness, and lack of concentration among young people.

At the same time, cleanliness and food safety standards are not being followed at most of the carts, which further increases the risk of infection and diseases. Parents say that they send their children home with nutritious food, but due to cheap and tasty fast food outside the school, the children do not listen to them. Meanwhile, the local people have demanded from the administration that junk food shops around schools and colleges should be controlled and children should be made aware about healthy eating.

Eating junk food regularly does not nourish the heart.

Siddha Hospital Director and senior cardiologist Dr. Anurag Mehrotra explained that there could be several reasons for a teenager's heart attack. Familial hypercholesterolemia is often the cause, which is caused by high cholesterol in the blood. Eating too much junk food can also lead to a heart attack? Furthermore, if the heart muscles are already weak and constant junk food consumption deprives them of nutrition, this can also lead to a heart attack.

Junk food does not provide fiber

According to dietitian Dr. Amisha Singh, junk food, such as pizza, momos, chutney, vinegar, noodles, vegetables, etc., is very low-grade. Consuming these foods for 3-4 years continuously can have a detrimental effect on the liver and intestines. This can also lead to intestinal ulcers. Junk food is low in fiber.

This can lead to multi-organ failure. Poor food quality also contributes to poor health. Similarly, samosas are often made using the same oil repeatedly. This causes this oil to become a slow poison. Therefore, consuming it regularly is also dangerous.

Do not give to children

Doctors say that fast food is devoid of nutrients. Therefore, avoid giving it to your children more than once a week.

No control of FSDA

Fast food stalls offer substandard sauces and ingredients. Most stalls lack hygiene standards and are not properly inspected by the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA).

That's why fast food is so popular.

  • Time Saving: Drive-thru or delivery in minutes.
  • Taste and variety: These taste good, despite their high sugar, salt, and fat content.
  • Provides energy during travel or with late night meals.
