A New Era Begins: BCCI Appoints 3 Specialist Female Coaches at Bengaluru Centre of Excellence

In a historic and unprecedented move to revolutionize the landscape of women's cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed three specialist female coaches at its state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

This marks the first time the BCCI has designated specialized, department-specific coaches dedicated solely to sharpening the skills of women cricketers. Strikingly, all three newly appointed icons are trailblazing former Indian players who will head-up the bowling, batting, and fielding divisions.

Meet the New Dynamic Coaching Trio

The BCCI has handed the reins to three highly accomplished tactical minds, creating a specialized ecosystem where young talent can thrive.

1. Nooshin Al Khadeer – Bowling Coach

An absolute legend of Indian spin bowling, Nooshin Al Khadeer takes over as the specialist bowling coach.

  • On-Field Legacy: Nooshin represented India in 78 ODIs (bagging 100 wickets) and 5 Test matches (taking 14 wickets). In 2003, she achieved the coveted world No. 1 ranking in women's ODI bowling. She was a vital pillar of the 2005 World Cup squad that reached the final, choking batters with an incredible tournament economy rate of just 3.05.

  • Coaching Credentials: She is no stranger to high-pressure mentorship. Nooshin famously masterminded the Indian Women's Under-19 team's historic triumph at the T20 World Cup.

2. Sunetra Paranjpe – Batting Coach

Tasked with fortifying the technical and tactical prowess of India's batters, former all-rounder Sunetra Paranjpe steps in as the batting coach.

  • On-Field Legacy: Debuting in 2002, Paranjpe donned the national jersey in 3 Tests and 28 ODIs over a five-year international career. Known for her grit in the middle order, she accumulated 322 runs and also chipped in with 11 wickets in the 50-over format.

3. V Ramu Vanitha – Fielding Coach

To transform the athletic standards of the team, the BCCI has brought in former explosive opener V. Ramu Vanitha as the dedicated fielding coach.

  • On-Field Legacy: Vanitha played 6 ODIs and 16 T20Is for Team India before retiring at the age of 32 to immediately transition into strategic management.

  • Coaching Credentials: Vanitha brings an incredibly diverse resume to the table. She has broken barriers by coaching the Shivamogga Lions in the men's Maharaja Trophy T20 tournament, serving as an official talent scout for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) men's team, and working as RCB's fielding coach in the Women's Premier League (WPL).

The 5-Year Revolution: How BCCI Transformed Women's Cricket

This historic coaching appointment is not an isolated event; it is the latest milestone in a massive, five-year systemic overhaul by the BCCI to elevate the women's game to equal footing with the men's circuit.

Here are the five revolutionary pillars executed by the board:

  • 1. The Landmark WPL Launch (2023): The inception of the Women’s Premier League completely redefined the sport globally. It has grown into the world's biggest women's cricket franchise, unlocking multi-million rupee contracts for athletes and providing a relentless pipeline for grassroots talent.

  • 2. Equal Match Fees (October 2022): In a monumental step toward pay equity, the BCCI implemented identical match fees for both central men and women international players. Women now pull in a massive ₹15 lakh per Test match, ₹6 lakh per ODI, and ₹3 lakh per T20I.

  • 3. Domestic Fee Surge: Recognizing that a strong foundation matters, the BCCI more than doubled the match fees for domestic women cricketers, skyrocketing daily match allowances from ₹20,000 to ₹50,000.

  • 4. Restructured Central Contracts: The board revitalized the A, B, and C grading contract brackets for women. The upcoming 2025–26 cycle is set to reward an unprecedented wave of emerging domestic performers with secure central retainers.

  • 5. Grassroots and High-Performance Infrastructure: Beyond school, college, and junior tournaments, the board has integrated elite high-performance camps and world-class training facilities to ensure that whenever a young girl picks up a bat, she has a clear path to the national team.
