Team India wrapped up the ODI series in style, crushing South Africa by 9 wickets in the decisive third match at Visakhapatnam. Under KL Rahul’s captaincy, India won the series 2-1, repeating their previous triumph against South Africa. For the first time in the series, India won the toss, and that small shift in luck turned into a big advantage.
Bowlers set the tone
Choosing to bowl first, India struck early. Arshdeep Singh dismissed Ryan Rickelton in the very first over, but Quinton de Kock counterattacked brilliantly, reaching his 23rd ODI century. Meanwhile, Prasidh Krishna — after an expensive start — staged a superb comeback. He took two wickets in the 29th over and later removed de Kock in the 33rd.
From there, South Africa’s innings unraveled. Kuldeep Yadav triggered a collapse, picking two wickets in the 39th over and two more later. Both Kuldeep and Prasidh finished with four wickets each, restricting South Africa to 270 runs.
A chase dominated by Rohit and Jaiswal
Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave India a dream start. They began cautiously but soon accelerated, building a decisive 155-run stand off just 25.5 overs. Rohit scored a fluent 75 off 73 balls (7 fours, 3 sixes), falling short of a century but playing a crucial knock.
Jaiswal rises with his maiden ODI century
After two quiet games, Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered when it mattered most. He held his nerve, paced his innings beautifully, and brought up his first ODI century — an unbeaten 116 off 121 balls (12 fours, 2 sixes).
Kohli finishes the job
Virat Kohli joined Jaiswal after Rohit’s dismissal and continued his blazing form. His unbeaten 65 off 45 balls (6 fours, 3 sixes) ensured India cruised to victory. The duo’s 116-run partnership sealed the match in just 39.5 overs.
A streak saved
This win also protected a 39-year-old record. Since 1986-87, when Pakistan beat India in both Tests and ODIs on the same tour, no visiting team has managed to win both series in India. South Africa came close, but strong performances and a touch of fortune kept the streak intact.
