PCB Bans Blessing Muzarabani for Choosing IPL Over PSL

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken strict action against Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani, banning him from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for two years. The decision came after Muzarabani opted to play in IPL 2026 instead of honoring his PSL contract.

Muzarabani had been signed by Islamabad United as a replacement for Shamar Joseph and was expected to feature in PSL 2026. However, before the tournament began, he withdrew and joined Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman. This sudden switch did not go down well with the PCB, which viewed it as a breach of contract.

The board responded firmly by imposing a two-year ban on Muzarabani from participating in the PSL. This isn’t the first such incident—similar action was taken last season when a player left the PSL to join an IPL franchise, highlighting PCB’s strict stance on contractual commitments.

Muzarabani’s decision was influenced by his rising reputation, especially after a strong performance in the T20 World Cup 2026, where he picked up 13 wickets in six matches, including a notable spell against Australia. In IPL 2026 as well, he has made an impact, taking four wickets in his first two matches.

While the IPL offers bigger exposure and financial rewards, this case shows that players may face consequences if they back out of league commitments, especially in competitions like the PSL where contracts are taken seriously.
