Shiv Ji Ke Pita Ka Naam: When Shiva's father's name was asked at the wedding, the biggest truth of the universe was revealed...

Shiv Ji Ke Pita Ka Naam: The question about Lord Shiva's father takes us to a deeper truth about creation. Shankaracharya's story tells us that Shiva is the origin of creation. Every living being is a part of him, and realizing oneself is the true goal of life

Father's Name: The identity of a father is crucial in every person's life. That's why, when we talk about gods and goddesses, the question of who their parents were automatically raised. People generally know about Lord Rama's father, Dasharatha, Lord Krishna's father, and Lord Ganesha's father, Vasudeva. But when it comes to Lord Shiva himself, our thoughts become stuck. The question arises: who is the father of Shiva, who is considered the foundation of creation and from whom everything originated? This question isn't merely a curiosity, but one that holds profound truths about philosophy, spirituality, and life. Recently, Jagatguru Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda Saraswati provided a beautiful and simple answer to this question through a story. This story not only discusses Lord Shiva's father, but also explains who we are, where we came from, and what our true purpose is. This story, related to Narmada's penance, is as fascinating to listen to as it is profound to understand.

Narmada's penance and unique boon:
According to Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda, Narmada once went to Kashi and performed rigorous penance. Pleased with her devotion, Lord Shiva appeared and asked her to ask for a boon. The boon Narmada asked for was not ordinary. She asked that she remain for eons, never perish, and most importantly, that Lord Shiva become her son. Hearing this, Lord Shiva smiled and said that this request was very strange. He then told Narmada a story that holds the answer to the question of who Shiva's father is.

Shiva-Parvati marriage and the question of father's name
Lord Shiva told that when he was getting married to Goddess Parvati in Himachal, Lord Brahma became the priest of that marriage. During the marriage, when the question of gotra and father's name arose, everyone became silent for a moment. The thing to think about was that how could the one who is the origin of the universe himself tell the name of his father? When Brahma asked who your father is, Shiva replied Brahma. Then when asked the name of Brahma's father, Shiva said Vishnu. When asked the name of Vishnu's father, i.e. great grandfather, Shiva calmly said - "That is me."

The Purpose of Life and the Shiva Element
Until a person recognizes the Shiva element hidden within them, their life cycle continues. Suffering, pleasure, attachment, and fear arise from this very mistake. As a person increases their knowledge and looks within themselves, they come closer to the truth that they are not just a body, but a part of the same consciousness called Shiva. This is why Shiva is considered not just a deity, but the ultimate truth. He is not anyone's son, but the origin of all.
