A shocking murder case has emerged from West Bengal's Bankura district, where a woman allegedly killed her husband with an axe following a dispute over living separately from their joint family. The horrifying incident took place early Saturday morning in Pakhanna village, under the jurisdiction of Barjora police station.
The incident became even more disturbing because the couple's five-year-old daughter was reportedly present when the attack took place. The accused woman also allegedly attacked her brother-in-law when he tried to intervene, leaving him seriously injured.
Dispute Over Living Separately from the Joint Family
According to information provided by police and local sources, Ujjwal Chakraborty, a resident of Pakhanna village, married Jhuma Chakraborty, who belongs to Manohar village, in 2017.
The couple has a five-year-old daughter. Reports suggest that Jhuma had repeatedly asked her husband to move out of the joint family and live separately from his brothers. However, Ujjwal reportedly did not agree to the demand, leading to frequent arguments between the couple.
Husband Attacked with an Axe at Around 4 AM
The incident reportedly took place around 4 AM on Saturday. Ujjwal's elder brother, Sanat Chakraborty, heard a loud noise coming from his younger brother's room. Initially, he thought that something inside the house had collapsed.
However, when Sanat rushed towards the room, he allegedly witnessed Jhuma attacking Ujjwal's neck repeatedly with an axe in front of their young daughter.
When Sanat attempted to stop her, the woman allegedly attacked him as well, causing serious injuries to his hand.
Police Arrest Accused Woman
After receiving information about the incident, personnel from Barjora police station reached the village and recovered Ujjwal's blood-soaked body from the room. He had suffered fatal injuries to his neck.
Police arrested Jhuma Chakraborty at the scene and seized the axe allegedly used in the attack. The weapon has been sent for forensic examination, while the victim's body was taken to Bankura Sammilani Medical College for a post-mortem examination.
Investigation Underway
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder, including the dispute between the couple and the events leading up to the attack. The injured brother-in-law's account is also expected to be important to the investigation.
The incident has left the local community shocked, particularly because the alleged crime took place in front of the couple's young daughter.
