Bottle Gourd, also known as Lauki, might not be the most preferred vegetable, but surely one of the healthiest options. Scroll down to learn how bottle guard can help add to your skin glow.

Lauki, also known as bottle gourd or doodhi, may not be everyone’s favourite vegetable, but when it comes to skin health, this vegetable is a game changer. Packed with water, vitamins, fibre and antioxidants, it offers miraculous benefits for the skin. Tanya Khanna, Nutritionist and Yoga Trainer, Alyve Health, India’s fastest-growing health-tech platform shared the benefits of Lauki for improving skin health.

5 Benefits Of Lauki For Skin

Here are the benefits of Lauki for the skin:

Hydration Booster

Tanya highlighted that Lauki is made up of nearly 92% water, making it an excellent food for keeping your skin hydrated from within. Proper hydration helps maintain skin elasticity, prevents dryness, and keeps your complexion soft and supple.

Fights Acne And Inflammation

Lauki has cooling and anti-inflammatory properties that help calm irritated skin and reduce acne flare-ups, said Tanya. Lauki juice, when consumed regularly, can help detoxify your body and promote clearer skin. Its cooling nature also helps balance internal heat (pitta), a common cause of skin eruptions in Ayurveda.

Rich In Vitamin C And Zinc

Tanya mentioned that vitamin C and zinc are two nutrients that are essential for skin repair and collagen production. Vitamin C boosts skin radiance, while zinc helps fight blemishes and supports the skin’s healing process.

Promotes Youthful Skin

Lauki is rich in antioxidants that combat free radicals, which are responsible for premature ageing. Regular intake can help reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and dullness, giving you a more youthful glow.

Aids Digestion And Boosting Skin Health

Healthy skin starts in the gut. Lauki’s high fibre content supports digestion and flushes out toxins, which can otherwise show up as breakouts, pigmentation, or dullness on the skin.

How To Include Lauki In Your Skin Routine?

Tanya recommends drinking fresh lauki juice on an empty stomach a few times a week can enhance these skin benefits, but always ensure the gourd is fresh and not bitter, as spoiled lauki can be toxic. You can drink 100–150 ml of fresh lauki juice in the morning on an empty stomach (after checking it’s not bitter). You can also add a dash of lemon or mint for flavour. You can also consider the Lauki smoothie. Blend it with cucumber, mint, and a pinch of black salt for a refreshing green smoothie.
