8th Pay Commission: The 8th PC will bring a significant salary increase; how much will the 2.57 fitment factor increase salaries?

Currently, employee curiosity regarding the Eighth Pay Commission has increased. Employees and pensioners are awaiting implementation and the expected salary increases for central employees. Salary increases under the new Pay Commission will primarily depend on the fitment factor. Currently, employee organizations are demanding a fitment factor of 2.86 to 3.25. However, if  the government maintains the fitment factor of 2.57 as per the Seventh Pay Commission, it is important to understand how salary calculations will change.

The fitment factor is a method of determining a new basic salary by multiplying the existing basic salary by a fixed factor. The Seventh Pay Commission implemented a 2.57 fitment factor, which increased the minimum basic salary from 7,000 to 18,000. If the 2.57 fitment factor is also implemented in the Eighth Pay Commission, the new basic salary for an 18,000 basic salary in Level 1 could be 46,260, representing an increase of 28,260. Employees with a 25,500 basic salary in Level 4 could have a new basic salary of 65,535. Those with a 35,400 basic salary in Level 6 could rise to 90,978. Officers with a 56,100 basic pay in Level 10 are expected to have a new basic pay of 144,177.

However, this is only a tentative calculation. Actual take-home pay may differ from this, as the structure of DA, HRA, and other allowances may change after the implementation of the new Pay Commission. When the new Pay Commission is implemented, the existing DA will be reduced to zero and its calculation will begin at the new basic pay.
