Director Vishal Bhardwaj’s crime drama O Romeo continues to generate discussion—not just for its box office performance, but also for the creative decisions behind its storytelling. The film, led by Shahid Kapoor, has crossed ₹61 crore worldwide, with approximately ₹43 crore earned in India within six days of release.
While audiences have praised the film’s intense action, layered characters, and powerful music, one detail that caught viewers’ attention was the mention of Aamir Khan in the opening disclaimer. The unexpected credit sparked curiosity and speculation—was Aamir Khan involved creatively, or was he meant to appear in a cameo?
The answer has now been revealed by Vishal Bhardwaj himself.
Why Aamir Khan’s Name Appears in the Credits
In a recent interview, Vishal Bhardwaj disclosed that Aamir Khan played a key role in shaping an important narrative moment in O Romeo. According to the filmmaker, Aamir had expressed interest in hearing the script and offered a significant suggestion that altered the emotional trajectory of the story.
Bhardwaj explained that Aamir felt a decisive killing at a crucial juncture would strengthen the film’s emotional impact and sharpen the characters’ motivations. This idea eventually became one of the most important turning points in the film.
The Scene That Changed Everything
In O Romeo, Shahid Kapoor portrays Ustra, a hardened and emotionally guarded character, while Tripti Dimri plays Afshan, a woman driven by pain and vengeance. The main antagonist, Jalal, is played by Avinash Tiwary, who is backed by a network of corrupt allies, including a lawyer and a police officer.
One pivotal scene shows lawyer Anjum Ansari being murdered inside a restaurant. Afshan initially attempts the act, but the killing ultimately unfolds in a shocking and violent manner. According to Vishal Bhardwaj, this entire sequence was inspired by Aamir Khan’s suggestion.
“This idea came directly from Aamir,” Bhardwaj revealed. “He felt that at this moment, someone important should die—and that death should become the emotional spark that binds Ustra and Afshan.”
Where the Love Story Truly Begins
The director further explained that this scene is where the emotional connection between the lead characters truly forms. Witnessing Afshan’s willingness to cross moral boundaries for revenge deeply affects Ustra.
“It’s at that point Ustra realizes what Afshan is capable of,” Bhardwaj said. “He sees her pain, her rage, and her courage. That is where attraction turns into something deeper. Their entire love story is born from that moment.”
Because of this, Vishal Bhardwaj felt it was essential to acknowledge Aamir Khan’s contribution publicly. “It was a major plot point for me,” he added. “That’s why I thanked Aamir from the bottom of my heart in the film.”
Strong Performances and Surprise Appearances
Beyond its central storyline, O Romeo has also been praised for its ensemble cast. Veteran actors Nana Patekar and Farida Jalal delivered impactful performances, while Vikrant Massey and Tamannaah Bhatia appeared in special roles that subtly altered the film’s narrative direction.
The combination of music, action choreography, and morally complex characters has resonated strongly with audiences, helping the film maintain steady momentum at the box office.
A Quiet Yet Powerful Creative Influence
Although Aamir Khan does not appear on screen in O Romeo, his behind-the-scenes contribution demonstrates how creative collaboration among filmmakers can quietly shape a story’s soul. His single suggestion not only influenced a key scene but also redefined the emotional foundation of the film.
As O Romeo continues its theatrical run, this revelation adds another layer of intrigue—proving that sometimes, the most impactful performances happen far away from the camera.
