Avoid These Food in high URIC ACID level: If your uric acid is high then certain food items should be reduced in your diet because these are purine rich foods which can increase uric acid further after entering the body.

Avoid These Food in high URIC ACID level: Increase in uric acid in the body has become a common problem nowadays. Due to increase in uric acid, many types of serious problems start increasing in the body. High level of uric acid not only causes arthritis or gout (Uric Acid Side Effects), but also has a bad effect on the kidney. When uric acid increases, it starts getting stored in the kidney and in such a situation the risk of kidney stones increases. AIIMS doctor Priyanka Sehrawat says that whenever uric acid increases in the body, along with consulting a doctor, attention should also be paid to food and drink (Diet for high Uric Acid). Doctor Priyanka says that some food items should be avoided when uric acid increases. Let us know which things should be avoided from the diet (Avoid These Foods in High Uric Acid) when uric acid increases.

Why and how uric acid is formed

Uric acid is a toxin formed in the body when a chemical called purine breaks down. This toxin is usually filtered out by the kidneys and expelled through urine. But when its level increases, the kidneys are unable to filter it. When the kidneys are unable to filter it completely, it starts accumulating in the bones and joints in the form of crystals. This causes joint pain and weakens the bones. AIIMS doctor Priyanka Sehrawat says that excess uric acid causes arthritis and kidney stones.

Avoid these foods when the level of uric acid is high (Avoid These Foods in High Uric Acid)

1. Animal Foods:

When the level of uric acid in the body increases, the consumption of animal food i.e. meat should be stopped. This includes red meat, beef, pork or lamb. These have high levels of purine, when you eat these foods, the purine present in them gets converted into uric acid through metabolism. This increases the level of uric acid and can have serious consequences.

2. Vegetables that need to be avoided

Talking about vegetarian food, you should remove vegetables like peas, spinach, broccoli, turnip, mushroom from your diet. All these vegetables are purine rich, so consuming them leads to accumulation of more purine in the body. If there is already more uric acid in your body, then these vegetables can increase it. Apart from vegetables, a lot of purine is also found in pulses. In such a situation, the consumption of pulses should be limited. You can eat one bowl of pulses in a day.

3. Alcohol:

The increased level of uric acid can increase further by consuming alcohol. In such a situation, it is important that you eliminate wine and beer from alcohol. By consuming these, the level of uric acid in the body can reach dangerous levels.

4. Sugary Drinks

Sugary drinks also contain a lot of purine. Their consumption can increase uric acid in your body. In such a situation, the amount of sugary drinks like soft drinks and carbonated drinks should be reduced in your diet.

5. High fructose corn syrup

High fructose corn syrup also contains a lot of purines. It is often used in bakery foods, such as cakes, bread and some desserts. This is a sweetener that helps make food sweeter and increases its shelf life. Therefore, avoid consuming foods that have been made using high fructose corn syrup.

Along with avoiding all these foods, drinking lots of water is also important to keep uric acid under control. Experts say that during high uric acid, keep the body hydrated and drink 2 to 3 liters of water a day.
