Team India continued its dominant run in the Asia Cup 2025 with a convincing 7-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan, showcasing their form, depth, and balance. As the tournament progresses, the Indian team looks nearly unstoppable, and even former cricketers are finding it hard to pinpoint any clear weakness. However, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has suggested there is only one possible way this team could lose — and it’s not at the hands of the opposition.
Speaking to Sony Sports, Sehwag said that the current Indian side is so well-rounded that it can only lose if it underperforms drastically on the day. According to him, the Indian team has all bases covered — strong top-order batting, depth in the middle, and a bowling unit that includes up to seven effective options. Sehwag explained that unless India has an "off day" where nothing goes their way, it's hard for any team to beat them in their current form. In his words, “The Indian team is very good. It will only lose if it plays very badly. Otherwise, it’s difficult to defeat this side.”
Ajay Jadeja, another former Indian cricketer, echoed Sehwag’s confidence. He praised Team India not just for its recent wins, but for its consistency over the last 18 months. According to Jadeja, India is currently the most powerful T20 side in the world. He pointed out India’s recent World Cup victory and their consistently high-level performances across formats as evidence that no team comes close in the shortest format right now.
India’s dominance in the Asia Cup has so far been unquestionable. In their first match, they defeated the UAE by 9 wickets, and then followed it up with the commanding win against Pakistan. With two back-to-back wins, India has already secured a spot in the Super 4 stage, and all signs point towards a smooth entry into the final.
While cricket is a game of uncertainties, Sehwag and Jadeja’s remarks reflect the confidence surrounding Team India’s form, balance, and execution. If they continue playing at this level, the Asia Cup trophy might very well be headed their way — unless, as Sehwag warns, they beat themselves.
