James Cameron’s much-awaited film Avatar: Fire and Ash has completed 14 days in theatres, including the New Year period. While the film has managed to put up respectable numbers at the box office, its overall performance has remained below expectations when compared to the earlier films in the Avatar franchise.
The first Avatar created history on release and went on to become the highest-grossing film in the world for many years. Even the second installment, released after a long gap of 13 years, delivered surprisingly strong box office results. However, Avatar 3, which arrived just two years after the second film, has not been able to fully capitalize on the franchise’s goodwill and past achievements.
Avatar 3 box office collection in India
In India, the film’s performance has been steady but not spectacular. One positive sign is that Avatar: Fire and Ash has maintained an average collection of around ₹10 crore per day. However, this figure still falls short when compared to the second part.
According to reports by Sacnilk, the film has collected approximately ₹159.90 crore in India during its first 14 days. This clearly shows that the film has found its audience, but it has not generated the same level of excitement and repeat value as Avatar: The Way of Water. Another concern is that the film has already crossed its most crucial initial phase at the box office, making further growth more challenging. Much now depends on how it performs in the coming weekends after the New Year.
Worldwide box office performance
On the global front, Avatar: Fire and Ash has performed better in scale but still below franchise standards. In its first 13 days, the film has earned around ₹7,400 crore worldwide. With these numbers, the film has already recovered its budget and avoided the risk of being labelled a flop.
That said, it is still far from achieving blockbuster or superhit status. Given the current trend, a sudden spike in collections looks difficult. The third week will be crucial for the film, as the makers hope it can continue its run and possibly move closer to the ₹10,000 crore worldwide mark in the coming days.
