Bangladesh Violence: Hindu Businessman Dies After Being Set on Fire in Mob Attack, Minority Safety Under Scrutiny

Incidents of violence against minority Hindus in Bangladesh continue to raise serious concerns. In a shocking development, Khokan Chandra Das, a 50-year-old Hindu businessman who was critically injured in a recent mob attack, has succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital. His death has deepened fear and insecurity within the Hindu community across the country.

Brutal Attack While Returning Home

Khokan Chandra Das ran a pharmaceutical and mobile banking business at Kyurbanga Bazaar in Bangladesh. According to reports, a few days ago, he was returning home in an auto-rickshaw after closing his shop when the incident occurred.

On the way, the auto-rickshaw was allegedly stopped by a group of attackers, who then assaulted him mercilessly with sharp weapons. The violence escalated further when the mob reportedly poured petrol on him and set him on fire.

In a desperate attempt to save his life, Khokan Chandra Das jumped into a nearby pond while still burning. Local residents rushed to help and immediately took him to the hospital. However, due to severe burn injuries over most of his body, he could not survive and died during treatment.

With Khokan Chandra Das’s death, the number of Hindus killed in recent minority-targeted attacks in Bangladesh has risen to four. Earlier victims include Dipu Das, Amrit Mandal, and Bijendra Biswas, whose murders had already triggered outrage and concern among human rights groups.
