BCCI Cracks Down on Staff Allowances: Daily Expenses Slashed, Travel Policy Overhauled

In a major internal shake-up, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revised its travel and allowance policies, resulting in a significant cut to daily allowances (DA) for its employees. The move was finalized in a key meeting held on June 14, following months of delayed payments.

What Has Changed?

  • Pending Payments Cleared Soon:
BCCI staff, especially from the media and finance departments, have not received their DAs since January 2025, including for IPL and WPL. With the new policy now approved, dues are expected to be settled soon.

  • Daily Allowance Slashed:
Previously, employees received up to ₹15,000 per day for travel (up to four days), and ₹10,000 for longer tours like IPL. A one-time allowance of ₹7,500 was also given.

    New Policy:

    • One-time allowance removed

    • Flat ₹10,000 per day, which reduces to ₹6,500 after tax

    • IPL travel allowance capped at ₹7 lakh (for full 70-day travel)

    • Partial attendance = reduced DA:

      • 60% for limited travel

      • 40% for no travel

Foreign Travel Policy Unchanged for Top Brass

  • Regular employees:

    • USD 300/day allowance

  • Honorary office bearers (President, Secretary, etc.):

    • USD 1000/day on foreign trips

    • ₹40,000/day for one-day meetings in India

    • ₹30,000/day for longer domestic work trips

Why This Matters

This move reflects a broader cost-control strategy by the BCCI, even amid its financial strength. While staff await pending dues, the revised structure enforces performance-based payouts and stricter travel expense accountability, especially in big events like the IPL and WPL.
