“Be Honest and Fair”: President Droupadi Murmu’s Key Message to IAS Officers

President Droupadi Murmu addressed newly appointed Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers on Tuesday, urging them to uphold the highest values of integrity, empathy, and fairness in public service. The officers, selected from state civil services, are currently undergoing training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie and met the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan as part of their official visit.

Emphasizing Ethical Governance

In her address, the President advised the officers to exercise their authority with a sense of empathy and impartiality, stressing that the spirit of public service must guide every decision they make.

“You are expected to set an example. Remain rooted in the values that define the Indian Administrative Service,” she said.

Murmu emphasized that inclusive development is only possible when governance reaches every citizen, especially the marginalized and weaker sections of society. “When the poor and the deprived experience real development, we will be closer to the goal of becoming a developed nation,” she added.

Role of Technology and Innovation in Public Service

Highlighting the transformative potential of digital technology, the President encouraged the officers to embrace innovations in e-governance, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital feedback mechanisms.

“Technology can help build a transparent, efficient, and citizen-friendly administration,” she noted. “From improving service delivery to enabling data-driven decisions, digital tools must be fully leveraged to ensure that government schemes reach every corner of the country.”

A Call for Integrity and Responsibility

President Murmu urged the future administrators to maintain integrity, transparency, and accountability in all aspects of governance. She reminded them of the critical role they play in shaping the nation's future and called on them to act as role models in public life.

She also touched upon environmental responsibility, stressing that sustainability must remain a priority. “It is our collective duty to leave behind a healthy and safe planet for future generations,” she said.
