Blackened Silver Will Shine Like New in Minutes, Chef Pankaj Bhadoria Shares an Easy Home Trick

Silver jewelry and utensils often lose their shine over time and start turning black. This happens because silver reacts with sulfur and hydrogen sulfide present in the air, forming a layer of silver sulfide on the surface. Factors such as humidity, pollution, sweat, heat, and even cosmetic products can speed up this tarnishing process. Because of this, many people either take their silver items to a goldsmith for polishing or spend hours scrubbing them at home.

Now, there’s no need for either. Celebrity chef Pankaj Bhadoria has shared a simple and effective home method that can clean blackened silver jewelry and utensils in just a few minutes, without any hard work.

If you have silver items at home that take too much effort to clean or require professional polishing, this easy recipe can be a game changer. With just a few common kitchen ingredients, your silver can regain its original shine quickly.

Things you’ll need to clean silver:

A large bowl (big enough to fit the silver items)
Hot water
Baking soda
Salt
Aluminium foil

How to prepare the cleaning solution:

First, take a large piece of aluminium foil, roughly the size of a plate. Place it inside the bowl and spread it evenly so it covers the base. Pour hot water into the bowl. Now add one teaspoon of baking soda and one teaspoon of salt. Mix the solution well until both dissolve properly.

How to clean silver jewelry and utensils:

Place your blackened silver jewelry or utensils into the prepared solution. Make sure they are fully submerged. Leave them soaking for about 15–20 minutes. During this time, the chemical reaction will remove the tarnish on its own.

Once the time is up, you’ll notice that the black layer has disappeared. There’s no need to scrub hard. Simply take the items out, gently wipe them with a soft sponge or cloth, and dry them properly. Your silver will look clean and shiny again.
