Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has finally been allotted a government bungalow, nearly 100 days after assuming office. The Chief Minister will move in once renovation work, including painting and repair, is completed. Officials have confirmed that the refurbishment will cost around Rs 47 lakh and is expected to be finished within two months.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has allotted Plot No. 8 on Raj Niwas Marg in Civil Lines, North Delhi, to the Chief Minister. The plot comprises four bungalows, out of which Rekha Gupta will get bungalow numbers 1 and 2. She is expected to reside in bungalow number 1, while number 2 may be used as a camp office.
According to PWD officials, bungalow number 1 was previously used for the Lieutenant Governor’s secretariat, which is now being vacated. Bungalow number 2 was earlier allotted to BJP MLA Abhay Verma, who surrendered it, making it available for the Chief Minister’s use.
The move comes in accordance with Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines regarding housing for high-security officials. As Chief Minister Gupta is entitled to Z-level security, the Civil Lines location meets the required criteria.
Before finalizing this property, the Chief Minister is said to have inspected several bungalows located on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg and in the Civil Lines area. Currently, she is residing in her family home in Shalimar Bagh, her assembly constituency.
A senior government official confirmed that the PWD has issued the allotment letter and begun renovation work. The bungalow is undergoing repairs and painting to prepare it for occupancy. The estimated cost of the work is Rs 47 lakh, and the completion timeline is set for 60 days.
The Chief Minister's Office has not issued an official comment on the matter.
Earlier, former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal resided at 6 Flag Staff Road, which is also located in Civil Lines. After the recent elections, the BJP returned to power in Delhi, defeating the Aam Aadmi Party. Most of the new cabinet ministers have already been allotted official residences across the city.
The PWD has also started issuing tenders for setting up camp offices for the ministers.
