Child Cruelty Allegations Surface at Shahjahanpur Children's Home, Caretaker's Video Goes Viral

The Government Children Home at Bareilly turn in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, is once again embroiled in controversy following the viral circulation of a video depicting alleged cruelty towards 13 orphan children. The video, which has sparked widespread outrage, shows caretaker Poonam Gangwar reportedly beating children with a stick, slapping them, and pulling their ears. This isn't the first time such allegations have surfaced against this particular children's home.

According to District Panchayat member Mukesh Dixit, the incident in the video dates back to September 2024. Dixit claims he lodged a complaint about the matter with higher authorities on December 31, 2024, but no action was taken. He subsequently escalated his complaints to Lucknow, but still, no measures were implemented. Frustrated by the inaction, he posted the video on social media, leading to its viral spread.

The viral video has caused significant stir within the district administration. Based on Dixit's complaint and the video evidence, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) immediately ordered an investigation. Following the initial inquiry, instructions have been given to terminate the service of the caretaker, Poonam Gangwar, accused of the abuse. Additionally, an explanation has been sought from the District Probation Officer regarding the delayed action.

The video clearly shows the physical abuse and harassment of the children, prompting public anger. It is alleged that despite the complaint being lodged in late 2024, the matter was suppressed, and the District Probation Officer failed to take action against the caretaker. Reports suggest that the caretaker was protected due to her alleged close ties with a department official, leading to officials turning a blind eye to the situation and allowing the abuse of the orphan children to continue.
