Classroom Scam: Manish Sisodia Skips ACB Summons, Cites Prior Commitments

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia did not appear before the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday for questioning in the high-profile Delhi classroom scam case. Sisodia, who was expected to join the probe today, sent a letter through his lawyer citing pre-scheduled engagements as the reason for his absence. The ACB has not yet responded officially to the letter or indicated the next date for questioning.

Case Background

The ACB is probing an alleged Rs 2,000 crore scam linked to the construction of 12,748 classrooms in Delhi government schools. The probe was initiated after Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena gave his nod in March 2025, following which an FIR was filed on April 30.

According to the complaint, serious irregularities in financial procedures, tendering norms, and violations of the CPWD manual were observed. The cost of constructing one classroom reportedly ballooned to Rs 24.86 lakh, far above the standard Rs 5 lakh per classroom in Delhi. Investigators allege the classroom sizes were arbitrarily increased to inflate construction costs.

Satyendar Jain Also Questioned

Before Sisodia, former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain was questioned on June 6 by the ACB in connection with the same case. Sources suggest Jain may be summoned again due to the gravity of the allegations.

Political Spotlight

The classroom scam has become a major flashpoint in Delhi politics. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also referred to the case, calling for accountability. Both Sisodia and Jain are accused of playing central roles in the alleged corruption.
