Young wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel impressed everyone with a brilliant century (125 runs) during the first innings of the Test match against West Indies in Ahmedabad. This performance not only strengthened India’s position but also made a compelling case for Jurel to maintain his place in the playing XI.
Jurel stepped in as the wicketkeeper while Rishabh Pant is sidelined due to injury. Besides his stellar batting, Jurel handled wicketkeeping duties confidently, taking multiple catches and stumpings. His emergence has now raised questions about Pant’s place once he recovers—though Pant remains India’s first-choice wicketkeeper with his aggressive batting and excellent keeping skills.
Meanwhile, Jurel’s impressive form has also increased pressure on fellow batsman Sai Sudarshan, whose underwhelming performances have put his spot in jeopardy. If Sudarshan does not improve soon, Jurel could solidify his position as a specialist batsman.
So far in his Test career, Jurel has scored 380 runs in 9 innings, including one century and one half-century, and contributed effectively both behind the stumps and with the bat. His consistent performances are earning praise and making him a valuable asset for Team India as they look ahead.
