If you own a two-wheeler or car, this update from the government is important for you. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has simplified several driving licence (DL) and vehicle-related services, allowing citizens to complete many tasks online without visiting the RTO.
This move aims to reduce crowding at RTO offices and make services faster and more transparent.
These Driving Licence Services Are Now Online
Vehicle owners can now complete the following tasks online through the Parivahan and Sarathi portals:
-
Renewal of driving licence
-
Address change on DL
-
Duplicate driving licence application
-
International Driving Permit (IDP) application
-
Learning Licence (LL) application and test booking
In most cases, biometric verification and document uploads can be done digitally.
No Driving Test Required in These Cases
As per the updated rules:
-
If you renew your DL before it expires or within the grace period, you won’t need to appear for a driving test.
-
Driving tests are required only in specific cases like long-term expiry or category upgrades.
Validity Period Extended
Under the new guidelines:
-
Driving licences are valid for 20 years or till the age of 50, whichever is earlier.
-
After 50 years of age, DLs need to be renewed every 5 years.
