"Drowned" Man Found Hiding in Delhi After 12-Day Search at Chhattisgarh Dam

Dhamtari, Chhattisgarh - A dramatic turn of events unfolded at Gangrel Dam in Dhamtari, where a 12-day search operation for a young man presumed drowned concluded with the shocking discovery that he had staged his own death and fled to Delhi. The man, identified as Hemant Chandravanshi from Kawardha, is now in police custody in Dhamtari and is being interrogated.

The incident began on May 25th when Hemant's clothes and slippers were found abandoned near the Gangrel Dam. His friends, with whom he had spent the night at a nearby resort, alerted the Rudri police after Hemant disappeared while they went to a shop. Believing he had drowned, police and a diving team immediately launched an extensive search operation in the dam waters.

For nearly two weeks, authorities diligently scoured the dam, but with no trace of Hemant, suspicions grew. The police then turned their attention to his family members, discovering that Hemant possessed an additional phone number. Tracking this number led them to Delhi, where, 12 days after the initial report, Hemant Chandravanshi was located and subsequently brought back to Dhamtari.

Debt Burden Behind the Deception:

Initial investigations by the police indicate that Hemant orchestrated this elaborate hoax to escape a significant debt burden. ASP Manishanker Chandra stated, "Hemant Chandravanshi, a resident of Kawardha, had gone to Gangrel Dam. During interrogation, it was found that he was under the burden of heavy debt. He was very upset due to this. That is why he staged his death. Then he left his belongings on the banks of Gangrel Dam and fled through the forest."

Authorities have confirmed that staging one's death is a serious offense, and legal action will be pursued against Hemant Chandravanshi for his actions.
