Farah Khan Opens Up About IVF Struggles: “I Used to Cry During Om Shanti Om Shoot”

Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan recently made a heartfelt revelation about her journey with IVF and the emotional toll it took on her. Speaking on her close friend Sania Mirza’s podcast “Serving It Up with Sania,” Farah shared that her IVF attempts had failed twice during the shooting of Shah Rukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om, leaving her deeply upset.

Farah candidly said, “My IVF failed twice. During that time, I was going through intense hormonal changes because of the treatments. I would start crying at the smallest things — and all this was happening while I was shooting Om Shanti Om.” The filmmaker recalled how the combination of her personal struggles and professional commitments made that phase especially difficult.

“Pregnancy Was Bound to Be Late Anyway”
Farah Khan married filmmaker Shirish Kunder on December 9, 2004, and became a mother to triplets through IVF on February 11, 2008. Reflecting on her journey, she said, “I got married late — at 40 — so pregnancy was bound to happen late anyway.”

“It Wasn’t Happening Naturally”
Before opting for IVF, Farah and Shirish tried to conceive naturally for nearly two years. “We went to a gynecologist, and she told us to try naturally first. But it just wasn’t happening,” Farah revealed. She eventually turned to IVF, a decision that brought her both challenges and blessings.
