Firozabad: 16 Years After Paan Shop Fight, 9 People Sentenced to Life Imprisonment

A clash over eating paan at a popular paan shop in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, turned deadly 16 years ago, resulting in one person’s death. Now, after a long legal battle, the court has delivered its verdict.

On July 14, 2009, an altercation broke out between two groups at the paan shop. The dispute escalated into violence, and the next day, Sunny fired shots injuring Ritesh Kumar, brother of Sagar Singh. Vishal Singh lost his life during this incident.

After a prolonged trial, the Additional District and Sessions Judge Vimal Verma of Fast Track Court No. 2 sentenced nine accused—Girish, Sagar, Ritesh, Vimal Kumar, Maunu, Vishnukant, Sunil, Nitin Kumar, and Rahul—to life imprisonment for the murder of Vishal Singh. Alongside, a fine of ₹24,000 was imposed on all convicts.

Sunny and Vijay, real brothers involved in the attack on Ritesh Kumar, were also convicted and sentenced in open court.

This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of how small disputes, if left unchecked, can escalate into irreversible tragedies.
