Flood-like conditions have gripped Bihar’s Nalanda district, triggering panic among residents as the water level in the Falgu river continues to rise rapidly. The situation has worsened following heavy rainfall in neighboring Jharkhand, leading to the breach of small dams and flooding in low-lying areas.

Water Released from Uderasthan Barrage Sparks Crisis
According to the Bihar Disaster Management Department, the crisis intensified on June 19 when 73,000 cusecs of water were released from the Uderasthan barrage in Jehanabad. The sudden release damaged portions of several small dams, leading to water inundation in parts of Hilsa, Karaiparsurai, and Ekangarsarai blocks.

Evacuations and Relief Efforts Underway
With floodwater entering residential areas, hundreds of families have fled their homes and taken refuge in makeshift relief camps. Temporary tents have been erected, and local authorities are supplying food packets and clean drinking water. Despite the arrangements, displaced residents are facing significant challenges, including overcrowding and inadequate sanitation.

NDRF Teams Deployed, Rescue Operations Ongoing
To manage the crisis, the government has deployed two teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). These teams are actively monitoring the situation and carrying out rescue and relief efforts in the worst-hit areas.

One of the most affected locations is Beldari Bigha in Ekangarsarai block, where several homes and farms are submerged under floodwaters.

Authorities on High Alert
With water levels still rising and weather forecasts predicting more rain, authorities remain on high alert. Further evacuations may be ordered if the situation deteriorates. The administration has urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious and cooperate with rescue personnel.
