Many state governments provide assistance for marriage. The Uttar Pradesh government is running one such scheme, called the Chief Minister's Mass Marriage Scheme. A major change has now been made to the rules of this scheme. Under the government's changes to the scheme, out of the total assistance of ₹1 lakh provided for the marriage of daughters from poor families, ₹64,000 will be transferred directly to the bride's bank account.
This amount has been directly credited to the girl's bank account in exchange for silver anklets and toe rings. As part of the change, the Yogi government has reduced the previously awarded gift of ₹25,000 by approximately ₹4,000 for the silver anklets and toe rings. This amount will be directly credited to the girl's bank account.
Under the scheme, now Rs 21,000 will be provided for gift items and Rs 15,000 for wedding ceremony expenses like pandal, food, tent etc.
