Amid ongoing protests against America’s immigration policies, a disturbing video has surfaced showing an Indian student being handcuffed and forcefully held down at Newark Liberty International Airport. The footage, widely shared on social media, has sparked anger among the Indian community and prompted official responses.
Video Shared by Indian-American Businessman
Indian-origin American businessman Kunal Jain shared the distressing video on social media platform X, highlighting the inhumane treatment faced by the student. Jain wrote that the student was crying, pleading that he was not mentally ill, yet airport officials handcuffed him and threw him to the ground as if he were a criminal. Jain called for urgent intervention from the Indian Embassy in the US and Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
"I saw an Indian student handcuffed, crying and treated like a criminal at Newark Airport. He had come to fulfill his dreams, not to harm anyone. As an NRI, I feel weak and broken," Jain wrote.
Indian Embassy Responds
The Indian Consulate in Newark acknowledged multiple social media posts about difficulties faced by Indian nationals at the airport and confirmed it is in touch with local authorities. The embassy assured that it remains committed to the welfare of Indian citizens abroad.
Public Outcry and Ongoing Concerns
The video has reignited public outrage, with many Indians sharing similar stories of mistreatment and poor communication by US immigration officials. The recent harsh immigration enforcement, including mass deportations where Indians were handcuffed and dragged, has further deepened concerns.

Call for Accountability
