In Hindu tradition, Hanuman, also known as Bajrangbali, is worshipped as the remover of troubles and protector of devotees. He is commonly offered vermilion, jasmine oil, and boondi laddus. However, among all offerings, Tulsi leaves or a Tulsi garland are considered the most powerful and प्रिय. It is believed that adorning Hanuman Ji with a Tulsi garland pleases him instantly and helps relieve devotees from difficulties. But what is the reason behind this belief? The answer lies in a beautiful mythological story.
When even fifty-six offerings could not satisfy Hanuman Ji
According to legend, after Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after completing his exile and was crowned king, one day Mother Sita lovingly prepared food for Hanuman Ji. She arranged a grand meal with various dishes and fifty-six bhog offerings. Hanuman Ji sat down joyfully and began eating with great enthusiasm.
In no time, he finished the entire meal. However, to everyone’s surprise, his hunger was still not satisfied. Mother Sita arranged food once again, and Hanuman Ji ate that as well. Slowly, the kitchen store began to empty, yet Hanuman Ji remained unsatiated.
Mother Sita discovers the true reason
Mother Sita became concerned and wondered how Hanuman Ji’s hunger could be satisfied. At that moment, she remembered Lord Rama. Rama smiled and hinted at the real reason behind Hanuman Ji’s hunger. Mother Sita then understood that Hanuman’s hunger was not physical, but devotional in nature.
She took a Tulsi leaf and lovingly wrote the name “Ram” on it. When she offered this Tulsi leaf to Hanuman Ji, something miraculous happened. The moment Hanuman accepted it, his hunger was instantly satisfied, and he felt complete contentment.
The divine secret of Tulsi
It is believed that Lord Rama resides in Tulsi. When the name of Rama reaches Hanuman Ji through a Tulsi leaf, it fulfills his devotion completely. That is why Tulsi is considered extremely dear to Hanuman Ji. Offering a Tulsi garland symbolizes offering Rama himself to Hanuman.
