How to Make Tofu at Home with Just 2 Things

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup soybeans (soaked overnight or at least 8 hours)

  • 2 to 3 tablespoons lemon juice or white vinegar

  • Water (as needed)

Steps to Make Tofu:

Step 1: Make Soy Milk

  • Soak soybeans overnight until they swell.

  • Wash thoroughly and grind with some water to make a paste.

  • Mix this paste with about 3 cups of water and boil well until a milk-like liquid forms.

  • Strain the mixture through a muslin cloth or sieve to get fresh soy milk.

Step 2: Curdle the Soy Milk

  • Heat the soy milk on low flame. When it just starts to boil, slowly add lemon juice or vinegar.

  • Milk will curdle and separate into curds and watery whey within a few minutes.

Step 3: Press the Tofu

  • Pour the curdled mixture into a muslin cloth to drain the water.

  • Rinse the curds with cold water to remove sourness.

  • Tie the cloth tightly and place a heavy object on top (like a rolling pin or book) to press out excess water for 20-30 minutes.

  • Open the cloth and you will have fresh, soft homemade tofu ready to use!
