Hyderabadi Mirchi Ka Salan is a delicious and spicy curry, which is usually served with Hyderabadi Biryani. This dish is prepared with green chillies, peanuts, sesame and coconut paste, which makes its taste unique and delicious. And believe me, you will not get such a taste anywhere else. Ingredients
For the masala paste:
- Peanuts - 50 grams
- Dry coconut - 25 grams
- Sesame seeds - 25 grams
- Coriander seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Cumin seeds - ½ tablespoon
- Turmeric – ¼ tsp
- Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
- Salt- as per taste
- Water - to make a paste
To make the curry:
- Green chillies - 300 grams
- Tamarind - 50 grams (soak and remove pulp)
- Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
- Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
- Nigella seeds - ¼ tsp
- Fenugreek seeds - ¼ tsp
- Curry leaves – some
- Green chilli paste - 1 tablespoon
- Fried onions – a handful
- Oil - for frying and roasting
Method (Recipe)
- firstly, heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan and add ⅓ cup chopped onion and saute till it becomes light brown.
- Now add ¼ cup dry coconut and fry on low flame till it becomes golden.
- Then add ¼ cup roasted peanuts and 1.5 tbsp sesame seeds and fry for 1-2 minutes. After this turn off the gas and add 2-3 garlic cloves (chopped), 1 inch ginger (chopped), ½ tsp red chili powder, ½ tsp turmeric powder and ½ tsp garam masala and make a fine paste by adding ½ cup water.
- Now soak 1 tablespoon tamarind in ⅓ cup hot water and keep it for 20-30 minutes.
- Later, squeeze the tamarind pulp, mix it in water and filter it.
- Meanwhile wash and dry 10-12 green chillies and slit them from the middle, but do not separate them.
- Now heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan and fry the chillies till they turn light brown.
- Take out the fried chillies and place them on tissue paper so that the extra oil gets absorbed.
- Now heat 2 tbsp oil in the same pan and add ½ tsp mustard seeds, ½ tsp nigella seeds and ½ tsp cumin seeds and let them crackle.
- After this add curry leaves and fry for 1 minute.
- Now add the prepared masala paste, mix well and fry on low flame for 3-4 minutes till the oil comes to the top.
- After this add tamarind water and 1.5-2 cups of water, mix well and boil for 5 minutes, then add fried chillies.
- After this add salt as per taste and cook for another 5-6 minutes and garnish with coriander leaves.

Serve Hyderabadi Mirchi Ka Salan with veg or non veg biryani. Its spicy and tangy taste doubles the taste of the food.
