Mohammed Siraj was the heartbeat of India’s nail-biting win over England in the Oval Test, where he claimed a stunning five-wicket haul in the second innings. While his bowling brilliance brought India a memorable victory, it was his raw, emotional moment after the match that truly captured the hearts of millions.
Tears in his eyes, ball in hand
After clinching the final wicket and securing a historic win, Siraj was seen walking around the field holding the match ball, soaking in the atmosphere as chants of his name echoed across the stadium. Overwhelmed by the moment, tears welled up in his eyes—a rare sight from the usually high-energy pacer.
The reason? A deeply personal memory, shared by teammate Ravindra Jadeja.
Jadeja’s words triggered Siraj’s emotions
In a post-match conversation with Dinesh Karthik, Siraj revealed that his emotions were stirred by something Jadeja had said during the Lord’s Test. Back then, Jadeja had told Siraj to remember his late father while batting. Though Siraj couldn’t save his wicket in that match and India lost, the words stayed with him.
This time at the Oval, when Siraj delivered the knockout blow to England and gave India a historic win, he remembered Jadeja’s words—and broke down.
“I believe in myself” — Siraj’s new mantra
Famous for his line, “I believe in Jassi Bhai”, referring to Jasprit Bumrah, Siraj updated his philosophy this time. With a smile, he said:
“I believe in myself.”
Siraj shared that he didn’t overcomplicate his plan—just kept the ball in the right areas and used the seam movement smartly. He even mentioned how he had downloaded an emoji on his phone that simply said “Believe”, which he kept looking at for motivation.
Regret over missed catch
Siraj also reflected on a dropped catch of Harry Brook on Day 4, admitting it nearly cost India the match:
“If I had caught Brook’s catch, the match wouldn't have gone to the fifth day. That moment really hurt us. But in the end, we won, and that’s what matters.”
A moment that touched the nation
Siraj’s tears weren’t just about the match—they were about redemption, belief, and remembering where he came from. From humble beginnings to becoming the highest wicket-taker of the series, Mohammed Siraj’s journey continues to inspire millions.
