The latest International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI rankings have brought a major shake-up at the top, with Daryl Mitchell replacing Virat Kohli as the world’s No. 1 ODI batsman.
According to the updated rankings released on Tuesday, Daryl Mitchell surged to the top spot after an outstanding performance in the recently concluded ODI series against India. The New Zealand batter amassed 352 runs in the series, which resulted in a significant boost to his rating points.
Mitchell Becomes New ODI No. 1
Daryl Mitchell now sits at No. 1 in the ICC ODI batting rankings with 845 rating points, a jump of 51 points from the previous update. In the last rankings, he was placed second with 794 points, but his consistent run-scoring against India helped him leapfrog the competition.
Virat Kohli Slips to Second Place
Virat Kohli, who was ranked No. 1 in the previous update, has now slipped to the second position. Interestingly, Kohli’s rating points remain unchanged at 795, but Mitchell’s sharp rise pushed the Indian star down the list. Kohli had claimed the top spot only a week earlier after overtaking Rohit Sharma, but his reign at the summit proved to be short-lived.
Strong Indian Presence in Top 5
Despite Kohli losing the No. 1 ranking, India continues to dominate the top tier of ODI batting. Three Indian batters feature in the top five of the latest rankings. Virat Kohli is placed second, Rohit Sharma is ranked fourth, and Shubman Gill occupies the fifth position.
