The Hundred League 2025 has entered its final stretch, with the championship clash set for 31 August. Ahead of the finale, Southern Brave, co-owned by the GMR Group (also co-owners of Delhi Capitals in the IPL), ended their campaign on a high by defeating Welsh Fire in their last league match. England opener Jason Roy, who is currently banned from the IPL, played a match-winning knock that sealed the win for his side.
Roy, who has been out of England’s national squad in recent years, delivered his best performance of the season by hammering a fiery 70 runs off just 39 balls, laced with 6 fours and 5 sixes. His innings powered Southern Brave to a strong total of 167/7 in 100 balls. Luus du Plooy added valuable runs with a 21-ball 30, while Welsh Fire’s David Payne and Riley Meredith picked up two wickets each.
In reply, Welsh Fire stumbled early, losing four wickets for just 51 runs. Wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Kohler-Cadmore kept their hopes alive with a scintillating 84 off 46 balls, featuring 3 fours and 7 towering sixes. Ben Kellaway also chipped in with 33 off 20, but the rest of the batting faltered. Despite a late charge, Welsh Fire fell short at 163/6 in their 100 balls, losing by 4 runs.
Craig Overton starred with the ball for Southern Brave, returning figures of 3/22 in 20 deliveries, while Jordan Thomson struck twice. With this win, Southern Brave bowed out of the tournament on a positive note, while Jason Roy reminded everyone of his destructive batting prowess despite his absence from the IPL.
