A major black-market racket involving complimentary IPL passes has been uncovered in Delhi during matches held at Arun Jaitley Stadium. According to the police investigation, an organized network allegedly involving officials linked to Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), petrol pump staff, and several middlemen was illegally selling free VIP match passes at extremely high prices.

Investigators claim the racket operated systematically during multiple IPL matches and generated massive profits by exploiting high demand for premium games — especially those involving cricket superstar Virat Kohli.

Police sources say some complimentary passes for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru versus Delhi Capitals match were allegedly sold for as much as ₹80,000 each.

Delhi Police Uncover Organized IPL Pass Network

According to investigators, the operation was not a small roadside ticket scam but a well-planned syndicate working through coordinated distribution channels.

Police suspect the network used insider access to obtain complimentary passes allocated for officials and members. The demand for passes was reportedly analyzed before each match, and prices were adjusted based on crowd interest and the popularity of players participating in the game.

Matches featuring Virat Kohli reportedly attracted the highest black-market rates due to overwhelming fan demand.

Sources claim that even during regular IPL matches, passes were allegedly sold for ₹8,000 to ₹20,000, while high-profile games saw prices rise dramatically.

Investigators say prices often increased further just before match time because desperate fans were willing to pay premium amounts to enter the stadium.

How the Black-Marketing Racket Was Exposed

The investigation reportedly began on May 8 after Delhi Police received information about people selling complimentary IPL passes at inflated rates outside the stadium.

Following surveillance and action by police teams, three individuals identified as Mukim, Gufran, and Mohammad Faisal were arrested. Multiple complimentary passes were allegedly recovered from them.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly revealed details about a larger distribution network operating around the stadium area.

Based on their statements, police traced the operation to a petrol pump employee named Pankaj Yadav, who investigators believe acted as a distribution coordinator within the network.

Petrol Pump Allegedly Used as Distribution Hub

One of the most shocking revelations during the investigation was the alleged use of a petrol pump located near the stadium as a distribution center for VIP passes.

Police suspect individuals connected to DDCA delivered passes to the location, after which they were distributed among several young men positioned outside different stadium gates.

Investigators say many deals were pre-arranged through phone calls and messaging apps before match day.

The syndicate allegedly increased prices sharply just before the start of games to maximize profits from last-minute buyers.

DDCA Officials Under Investigation

Delhi Police are now reportedly focusing on a senior DDCA-linked official believed to be one of the key masterminds behind the racket.

According to investigators, the official may have supplied leftover complimentary passes to the black-market network.

Under Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) rules, host cricket associations typically receive around 10 to 15 percent of stadium capacity as complimentary passes.

Sources say DDCA receives nearly 6,000 complimentary passes for each IPL match held in Delhi. Around 4,000 passes are usually distributed among members and officials.

Investigators suspect some of the remaining passes may have been diverted into the black market.

Police have reportedly questioned four DDCA officials, including two senior functionaries, for nearly five hours as part of the ongoing investigation.

Betting and Criminal Network Angle Also Being Probed

The investigation has now expanded beyond illegal ticket sales.

Police reportedly suspect the network may also have links to online betting syndicates operating during IPL matches.

According to sources, some premium passes were allegedly provided to individuals involved in live betting activities inside the stadium.

Authorities are also investigating whether pickpockets and other criminal elements used the network to gain entry into matches.

Investigators are now examining whether similar pass-distribution networks may be active at other IPL venues across the country.

Forensic Examination of Mobile Phones Underway

Police have seized mobile phones belonging to the arrested accused.

Initial findings reportedly suggest that several chats, call logs, and app records had been deleted before the arrests. The devices have now been sent for forensic analysis in an attempt to recover deleted data.
