Jharkhand captain Ishan Kishan reminded everyone of his explosive talent with a sensational 173-run innings against Tamil Nadu in the season’s opening match. The left-hander smashed 15 fours and 6 sixes, lighting up the ground with his trademark attacking style.

At one stage, Jharkhand were reeling at 157 for 6, but Ishan, along with Sahil Raj, turned the game around, taking the total to 419. His innings could have gone on to a double century if not for a sharp catch by Shahrukh Khan that ended his brilliant knock.

Message to the Selectors

This powerful innings seemed like a direct reply to the Indian selectors, who had recently excluded Ishan from the Test series against West Indies. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar had remarked that Ishan should “play more domestic cricket and score runs,” and the wicketkeeper-batsman appears to have done exactly that — answering with his bat.

Ishan, who hasn’t played for India since November 2023, had taken a break midway through the South Africa tour. His comeback ton has reignited talks about his return to the national side.
