Jasprit Bumrah Takes 5 Wickets at Eden Gardens for the First Time, Destroys South Africa’s Line-up

South Africa were bowled out for just 159 runs in their first innings of the opening Test against India, and the biggest reason behind their collapse was Jasprit Bumrah. India’s star pacer dominated the visitors with a brilliant five-wicket haul, dismissing half of the South African side single-handedly. In doing so, he also achieved multiple significant milestones.

First-ever five-for at Eden Gardens
This is Bumrah’s 16th five-wicket haul in Test cricket, but what makes it special is the venue. Playing his first Test at Eden Gardens, Bumrah claimed a five-for at the iconic ground for the very first time. It adds another unique chapter to his already remarkable career.

Record-breaking performance against SENA teams
Of Bumrah’s 16 five-wicket hauls, an incredible 13 have come against SENA nations (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia). This is a record for any Asian bowler. He has now surpassed Wasim Akram, who had 12 such hauls against SENA sides.

Fourth five-wicket haul against South Africa
This is the fourth time Bumrah has taken five wickets in a Test innings against South Africa. With this, he has matched Javagal Srinath and Harbhajan Singh. The Indian record still belongs to R. Ashwin, who has achieved this feat five times against the Proteas.

Who fell to Bumrah
The South African batters dismissed by Bumrah in this innings were Ryan Rickelton, Aiden Markram, Tony de Giorgi, Simon Harmer, and Keshav Maharaj.
