The Significance of Tripurari Purnima

Kartik Purnima is also celebrated as Tripuri Purnima or Tripurari Purnima, commemorating Lord Shiva’s victory over the demon Tripurasura, who had long troubled the gods. To celebrate this triumph, the gods lit lamps in Kashi (Varanasi), marking the beginning of Dev Diwali—the festival of lights for the gods.
