Kerala’s Onam Liquor Sales Break Records! ₹771 Crore Worth of Alcohol Sold in Just 8 Days

Onam celebrations in Kerala have brought a massive surge in liquor sales, with the state's government-run liquor distribution network recording sales worth more than ₹770 crore in just eight days.

According to official figures from the Kerala State Beverages Corporation (Bevco), liquor worth ₹771.29 crore was sold across the state between August 18 and August 25, 2026. The figure is significantly higher than the ₹694.96 crore recorded during the same eight-day period during Onam last year.

Sales Jump by More Than ₹76 Crore

Liquor sales during the first eight days of the 10-day Onam period reached ₹771.29 crore. This represents an increase of around ₹76.33 crore compared with the corresponding period in 2025.

The strong sales have put Bevco on track to exceed last year's total festive-season sales. In 2025, liquor sales during the Onam season stood at ₹826.38 crore.

With two days still remaining in this year's 10-day festive period, officials expect the final figure to cross last year's record.

₹126 Crore Worth of Liquor Sold in a Single Day

One of the busiest days was Uthradam, the day before Thiruvonam. Bevco outlets across Kerala recorded liquor sales worth approximately ₹126.31 crore on the day.

Interestingly, this was lower than the ₹137.64 crore recorded on Uthradam during the previous year. Despite the lower single-day figure, overall sales for the festival period have remained higher because of strong demand during the other days.

Karunagappally Outlet Tops the List

The festive rush was particularly visible at several Bevco outlets across the state.

The Karunagappally outlet recorded the highest turnover on Uthradam, with sales of around ₹1.15 crore in a single day.

Another outlet recorded sales of approximately ₹1.06 crore, while outlets in areas including Thiruvananthapuram, Kasaragod and Alappuzha also reported exceptionally high sales.

What Is Bevco?

The Kerala State Beverages Corporation, commonly known as Bevco, is a government-owned company responsible for the procurement, sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages through its network in the state.

Its portfolio includes Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), beer, wine, Foreign Made Foreign Liquor (FMFL) and Foreign Made Wine (FMW).

Will Kerala Break Last Year's Onam Record?

With two days remaining in the 10-day Onam sales period, Kerala has already recorded ₹771.29 crore in liquor sales.

Last year's total stood at ₹826.38 crore, meaning the state needs roughly ₹55 crore more to surpass that figure.
