Air India Plane Crash: 60-year-old pilot Captain Sumit Sabharwal also lost his life in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. He was about to retire in the coming days. People in the neighbourhood are emotional due to his death. Sabharwal, who had been working as a pilot for a long time, was living with his 90-year-old father Pushkarraj in Jalvayu Vihar in Powai, Mumbai.
According to the Indian Express report, neighbours said he was just a few months away from retirement and planned to spend more time at home with his aging father. Pushkaraj has previously worked in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
A neighbour in Jalvayu Vihar said, "He was a very reserved and disciplined person. We would often see him coming and going in uniform, but he was a very reserved person."
Sabharwal leaves behind his elder sister, who lives in Delhi. His two sons have also taken up the same profession and both are commercial pilots.

Sabharwal's death is a shock not only to his family but also to Powai, where he lived for many years.
A family friend of Sumit Sabharwal described him as a good member of the (housing) society and said that he could not believe the news.
Family friend Wing Commander (Retd) Sanjay Pai said, "When the society members came to know about his death yesterday, we were all shocked. Many people came to meet his family. It is hard to believe that he is no more in this world."

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft (AI171) carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members crashed into the medical college campus seconds after taking off from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport on Thursday afternoon.
241 people including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani died in the plane. Only one person survived. The plane crashed on top of the doctor's hostel, due to which many doctors also lost their lives. A total of 265 people have died.
The flight was commanded by Captain Sumit Sabharwal. He was accompanied by First Officer Clive Kunder. Sabharwal had 8,200 hours of flying experience, while Kunder had 1,100 hours of flying experience.
