LPG Cylinder: Big decision by the government before Diwali! One gas cylinder will be available free; know the rules?

With Diwali just days away, important news has emerged for the public.  The government will provide financial assistance for LPG cylinders to ration card holders this Diwali. This scheme has been implemented by the Delhi government. This will make Diwali even sweeter for the people of Delhi this year. However, let's find out who will actually receive this assistance and what the rules are.

A few months ago, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced this scheme. According to this, all families with ration cards in Delhi will receive financial assistance equivalent to the cost of two LPG cylinders each year. The government has stated that this assistance will be provided during both Holi and Diwali. Importantly, it is not necessary to have had an LPG cylinder refilled that month to benefit from this scheme. The money for the free cylinder will be credited to the account of the person in the family whose number is registered. For this, the bank account must be linked to Aadhaar. Therefore, the amount will be deposited directly into the account through DBT, or Direct Benefit Transfer.

Another important aspect of this scheme is that any ration card holder family that uses LPG or PNG (piped natural gas) for cooking will be eligible for the scheme's benefits. This means that the scheme will not be limited to families with LPG connections. According to government estimates, the annual expenditure on this scheme is expected to be approximately ₹242.77 crore. This expenditure may increase or decrease depending on changes in LPG prices, central government subsidies, and the number of beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, the price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi is currently ₹942. The price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has recently been increased by ₹62.59. Therefore, with Diwali around the corner, people are now focused on when and how much ration cardholder families in Delhi will receive this government financial assistance.
