Legendary Indian captain and wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame on Monday, June 9. The 43-year-old cricketer from Jharkhand played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20 matches in his 15-year-long international career and scored more than 17,000 runs. He led India to the first T20 World Cup in 2007, the ODI World Cup in 2011, and the Champions Trophy in 2013.
Dhoni is the only cricketer in the world to have won all three ICC limited-overs format trophies. Under his leadership, India also reached the top of the Test rankings and won the Test mace several times. After becoming the 11th Indian cricketer to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, Dhoni expressed his happiness and said that this honor will always remain with him.
Dhoni told ICC, "It is an honor to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognizes the contributions of generations and cricketers across the world. It is an amazing experience to have my name remembered alongside such greats. It is something I will always cherish." Dhoni made his international debut for India in an ODI against Bangladesh in Chittagong on 23 December 2004 and played 347 ODIs for India and three ODIs for Asia XI. In ODIs, he scored a total of 10773 runs in 297 innings and ended his Test career in December 2014 with 4,876 runs in 90 matches. Dhoni also played 98 T20 matches and scored 1,617 runs in 85 innings. Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on 15 August 2020 but he still plays for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. He was retained by the Chennai franchise for Rs 4 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction last year and returned as CSK captain on 11 April 2025. But despite returning to captaincy, CSK failed to perform as expected in IPL 2025 and finished at the bottom of the points table for the first time in history.
