Major Setback for Team India: Shubman Gill Ruled Out of Guwahati Test, Sent Back to Mumbai

India is already trailing 0–1 in the two-match Test series against South Africa, and the upcoming second Test at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati has become a must-win encounter. But ahead of this crucial match, Team India has been hit with a significant blow—captain Shubman Gill has been ruled out.

Gill had suffered severe neck spasms during the Kolkata Test, forcing him to miss the remainder of the match and leading to his admission at Woodlands Hospital. Since then, BCCI medical staff and local doctors have been closely monitoring his condition. As per reports, the BCCI has now opted for a precautionary approach and officially released Gill from the squad for the Guwahati Test.

Although Gill traveled to Guwahati with the team on November 19, his absence during the practice session on November 20 raised concerns. It has now been confirmed that he has flown back to Mumbai. He will rest for two to three days before consulting sports injury specialist Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, after which he may continue rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.

New captain for the Guwahati Test
With Gill unavailable, Rishabh Pant will lead the side. Pant had taken over mid-match during the previous Test after Gill’s injury, though India eventually lost that game.

Possible replacements
In Gill’s absence, the team management is likely to consider Sai Sudarshan or Nitish Kumar Reddy for a spot in the playing XI.
