A major controversy has erupted in Meerut after YouTuber Shadab Jakati allegedly organized a showroom inauguration without official permission, leading to hours-long traffic disruption and police action.
The incident took place on April 26 during the launch of his jewelry showroom. To promote the event, Jakati invited several social media influencers, which drew an unexpectedly massive crowd. Hundreds of people, including young fans and children, gathered in large numbers in the Nauchandi area, overwhelming the streets and bringing traffic to a standstill.
Eyewitnesses reported chaotic scenes, with roads completely blocked and movement nearly impossible for commuters. The situation escalated to the point where it resembled a stampede, with several people narrowly avoiding injury. Amid the confusion, reports also emerged of thefts, including stolen motorcycles.
The presence of influencer Neha Singh further intensified the situation. As she appeared at the venue, the crowd surged forward to catch a glimpse and take photos, making it extremely difficult for authorities to manage the gathering. Police eventually had to resort to a mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd and restore order.
Taking serious note of the incident, Superintendent of Police (City) Vinayak Bhonsale confirmed that no prior permission had been obtained for the event. An FIR has been registered against Jakati and other organizers on charges including unlawful gathering, blocking public roads, and causing inconvenience to the public.
Authorities have emphasized that social media popularity does not exempt individuals from following the law. They also warned influencers to act responsibly, as such large, uncontrolled gatherings can pose significant risks to public safety.
