Meet Hasrat Gill: From Punjab to Australia, Making Her WBBL Debut with Sydney Thunder

While Shubman Gill has been in the limelight for his recent cricket exploits, another Gill from Punjab has made waves, this time in women's cricket. Hasrat Gill, born in Amritsar in 2005, moved to Australia with her family in 2008. Though her roots are in Punjab, she now represents Australia in cricket.

Hasrat has steadily climbed the ranks, playing underage cricket and representing Australia in the Under-19 Women’s Cricket World Cup last year. This season, she made her debut in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) with the Sydney Thunder, with her parents present to support her.

In her first two WBBL matches, Hasrat faced tough competition. Against Hobart Hurricanes on November 9, she scored 3 runs and bowled 4 overs conceding 36 runs without taking a wicket, with Sydney Thunder losing by 6 wickets. In the next match against Melbourne Renegades on November 11, she again scored only 3 runs, and her bowling yielded 22 runs in 2 overs, though Sydney Thunder won by 4 wickets.

Hasrat’s journey from Punjab to the Australian cricketing arena is inspiring as she continues to grow and adapt in competitive cricket.
