Seattle Orcas have faced significant challenges this Major League Cricket season. After recently removing head coach Matthew Mott due to differences in coaching and management strategies, the team’s captain Henrik Klaasen has also stepped down. Klaasen resigned following a string of poor results, with the team losing all five matches under his leadership.
Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza has been appointed as the new captain. In his very first match leading the team against MI New York, Seattle Orcas recorded their first victory of the season after 10 consecutive losses.
Match Highlights: Seattle Orcas vs MI New York
-
MI New York posted 237/4 in 20 overs, powered by captain Nicholas Pooran’s unbeaten 108 and Tajinder Dhillon’s 95*.
-
Seattle Orcas successfully chased down the target on the last ball, thanks to Shimron Hetmyer’s unbeaten 97 off 40 balls, which included 9 sixes and 5 fours.
-
Hetmyer’s last-ball six sealed a thrilling win, with Sikandar Raza contributing a quick 30 runs and Klaasen adding 26 before stepping down.
-
The victory gave Seattle Orcas 2 points, placing them fifth in the MLC 2025 points table.
The key question now is whether the team under Sikandar Raza’s captaincy can maintain momentum and qualify for the playoffs.
