To make Aadhaar more digital, secure, and user-friendly, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a new Aadhaar app, which is an upgraded and more advanced version of the older mAadhaar app. Available for both Android and iOS users, this new app introduces a highly useful feature that allows individuals to manage multiple Aadhaar profiles from a single mobile device. With this update, users can add their own Aadhaar along with the Aadhaar details of up to five family members, making it especially convenient for households with children and elderly members.
The biggest advantage of this update is that there is no longer a need to carry physical Aadhaar cards. Whether you are travelling, checking into a hotel, or completing identity verification elsewhere, you can show the digital Aadhaar of any family member directly from your phone. The app displays a secure QR code that is sufficient for verification. Importantly, each Aadhaar profile added to the app remains individually protected with a password and biometric lock, ensuring that personal data cannot be misused. Users also have the option to lock any specific profile for added security.
Adding a new family member’s Aadhaar profile to the app is a simple process. After opening the new Aadhaar App, users need to tap on the “Add Profile” option near the profile photo section. They then enter the 12-digit Aadhaar number of the family member they wish to add. An OTP is sent to the mobile number linked with that Aadhaar for verification. Once the OTP is entered, the app may ask for face authentication to complete the process. After successful verification, the new profile is added, and users can easily switch between profiles within the app.
There are a few important points users should keep in mind while using this feature. A maximum of five additional family member profiles can be added to one app. The Aadhaar of the family member must be linked to an active mobile number to receive the OTP. Additionally, details such as the name and date of birth must be entered exactly as mentioned on the Aadhaar card. Overall, this update makes Aadhaar management simpler, safer, and more practical for families by bringing all essential identity profiles into a single, secure app.
