Mahindra is preparing to expand its SUV lineup with new sub-4-metre models, and one of the most talked-about upcoming products is a compact SUV inspired by the Vision S concept.

Expected to arrive around 2027, the new SUV could bring the familiar Scorpio design language into a smaller package while using Mahindra's newer modular platform. Testing of the production version is already underway.

Bold, Boxy Design

The upcoming SUV is expected to retain much of the upright and squared-off styling seen on the Vision S concept.

Recent spy images suggest that the production model could feature a tall stance, prominent wheel arches and upright pillars, giving it a rugged appearance despite being based on a modern monocoque platform.

At the rear, the SUV is expected to get slim LED tail lamps positioned around the rear windscreen. The design is reminiscent of the styling seen on the larger Scorpio models.

A full-size spare wheel is expected to be mounted on the tailgate, which could use a side-hinged opening. Flush-style door handles and 16-inch alloy wheels are also expected.

Modern Cabin With Dual Screens

The interior could combine a rugged SUV theme with modern technology.

The production version is expected to feature two separate displays of approximately 10.25 inches each—one for the digital instrument cluster and another for the infotainment system.

The infotainment system is expected to run Mahindra's next-generation AdrenoX software. Physical controls could continue to be used for functions such as climate control, while aircraft-inspired toggle switches may add to the cabin's distinctive design.

Other expected equipment includes:

• Drive mode selector

• Multifunction steering wheel

• Panoramic sunroof

• Powered front seats

The exact equipment could vary depending on the variant.

Petrol, Diesel and Hybrid Powertrain Options

The upcoming SUV is expected to offer multiple powertrain possibilities.

Reports suggest that a 1.2-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine could be offered. Mahindra's NU_IQ platform is designed to support internal-combustion, hybrid and electric powertrains.

Mahindra is also developing hybrid technology based around its 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, which could potentially be introduced in the Vision S-based SUV.

However, final engine specifications, transmission options and power outputs have not yet been officially confirmed.

Positioned as a Rugged Alternative to the XUV 3XO

The new SUV is expected to sit alongside the Mahindra XUV 3XO but could have a more rugged and lifestyle-oriented positioning.

Its potential rivals could include the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Hyundai Venue, along with other upcoming compact SUVs.

Expected Launch Around 2027

The production version of the Vision S-based SUV is expected to make its market debut around early 2027, although the exact launch date has not been officially confirmed.

If Mahindra retains the concept's bold styling while combining it with modern technology and multiple powertrain options, the upcoming sub-4-metre SUV could become an important addition to the company's compact SUV portfolio.
