OpenAI's ChatGPT update: Tech company OpenAI has rolled out a new personal finance feature for its AI chatbot ChatGPT. How this feature will work and what benefits it will bring to the users is a question in many people's mind. According to the information received, with this new feature, users will now be able to connect their accounts, credit cards and investment accounts directly to ChatGPT. After this, with the help of the new feature, ChatGPT will help in understanding the calculation of money. Currently, this new feature is available only for Pro users in the US, who spend $200 every month. After this, this feature will be rolled out for Plus users. The company says that in the future, this feature can be rolled out for all users.

How does the new feature work?

When you connect your account to ChatGPT using this new feature, ChatGPT will show you a dashboard. It gives you a complete view of where your money is going, including expenses, investments, active subscriptions, and upcoming payments, all in one place. It connects to over 12,000 institutions through Plaid, including Chase, Schwab, Fidelity, Robinhood, Amex, and Capital One.

You can also ask ChatGPT questions within this feature to help you plan your spending and save. You can ask ChatGPT questions like, "Am I overspending?", "Can I afford a house in 5 years?", "What subscriptions do I still have?", etc. These chats run by default on GPT-5.5 Thinking, OpenAI's new reasoning model. Pro users will also get GPT-5.5 Pro. OpenAI says it can better handle more complex money-related questions. To turn on the feature, open Finances from the sidebar or simply type “@Finances, connect my accounts” in any chat.

What the new feature doesn't do
ChatGPT can read your balance, transactions, investments, and liabilities. This feature can't transfer money and doesn't show your full account number. You can disconnect any account from the feature if you change your mind. Synced data is claimed to be completely deleted within 30 days. You can also delete 'Financial Memories'. This feature was launched a month after OpenAI acquired personal finance startup Hiro.
