In a disturbing incident from Thane, Maharashtra, police have arrested a 21-year-old woman for allegedly provoking a young man to take his own life. The case was registered after WhatsApp chats surfaced, revealing the woman’s messages encouraging the victim to commit suicide.

Young Man Found Hanging at Home

On June 26, 21-year-old Sahil Sahdev Thakur was found hanging in his house in the Varchpada area of Dombivli (East). His parents were out of town on a religious trip at the time, and Sahil was alone at home.

Initially, the cause of suicide was unclear. However, a later review of his mobile phone by the family revealed a series of WhatsApp messages exchanged with a young woman he knew.

Shocking Texts Uncovered in Phone Chats

According to Manpada police, the chats between Sahil and the accused took place between 2 a.m. and 3:15 a.m. on the night of his death. The exchanges show a heated argument, during which the girl allegedly wrote, “There’s no one at home, go hang yourself. Don’t use a new saree. Use an old one.”

These chilling messages formed the core of the evidence submitted by Sahil’s family and a local political party leader who accompanied them to the police station on Monday.

Case Registered for Abetment to Suicide

Senior Inspector Sandipan Shinde confirmed that police examined the chats thoroughly and deemed them serious. Based on this digital evidence and the formal complaint, a case under Section 108 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the woman.

Police investigations are ongoing.
